Abstract

The rise of populism is happening inte the western world, how may this be connected to the relationship between media, politicians and voters.
In sweden the populist party came later than other western countries, but grew fast in support.

Using several quantitaive surveys conducted in Novus probabilistic panel and telephone surveys during the last 5 years we try to explain how the relationship may be between media, politicians and voter. We take a broader look about the view on democarcy, news media and the politicans, trying to explain the connection.

This will not solve the rise of populism, but we have identified a couple of issued that could be changed to show the responsibility of the different actors that lay a foundation to stabilize deomcracy.

This is a summary of over a decades of studies but focusing mainly on the last 5 years, using Sweden as an example for what is happening in most wester countries at the moment.
